Leo was born in the year 1797 and died in
the year 1876 at the age of 76. The feast day of this great Holy Face Apostle
is December 1st. Leo was a true man of God. Leo thought that it was
a very great honor to help the poor, the sick and even the noble, anyone who
needed help.
In 1827, Leo married Caroline D’Andiffredi.
Five years later they had a daughter named Henrietta. Within a year of the
birth of their daughter, Leos’ wife passed away. One day 1846 Leos’ daughter
Henrietta was sent home from school after becoming ill with a serious illness.
Within a few day’s, Leo’s only daughter died. These deaths were very heavy
crosses for Leo. After the death of his daughter he devoted his life to living
only for God. Leo loved to practice and talk about his Catholic faith no
matter what anyone thought of him. One day Leo heard about a Sister Mary of
St. Peter, a Carmelite nun who had visions of Jesus. Our Lord told Sr. Mary to
establish and promote devotion to His Holy Face. Jesus told her; “I desire the
establishment of the Work of Reparation. For it is the Work of Reparation to
the Holy Face that will hold back God’s Justice.”
Leo made great efforts to spread this
devotion. He had an oil lamp that he kept burning continuously before a
picture of the Holy Face. Many, many people were cured of their diseases and
illnesses by praying with them before the Holy Face and having them apply the
Holy Face oil from his lamp to their skin. Thousands of people made pilgrimage
to this Holy Man of Tours house and prayed before the Holy Face.
